One city with two treatment plants
O’Fallon’s Sewer Division runs the Rieder Road treatment plant, which serves about three quarters of O’Fallon and half of Shiloh. Caseyville Township’s plant takes the rest. Either way, the city’s line ends at its main; its backup guide says the city is not allowed by law to work on private property, so the lateral is yours.
Permits, inspections and tap fees
Repairing or replacing a lateral in O’Fallon takes a Sewer Lateral Repair or Replacement Permit, and Public Works inspects the work (618-624-4500, extension 3). A failed second inspection costs $25. For new construction, the single-family sewer tap fee is $3,000.
With a median build year of 1995, 35 years younger than Belleville’s, most O’Fallon laterals went in after Orangeburg pipe fell out of use around 1970. That makes the camera even more important here: on younger pipe, the cause of a backup is worth seeing before anyone recommends replacing the line.
