Where the city’s part ends
Troy answers the question in its own FAQ: the homeowner is responsible for repairs to the sewer lateral, and the city is responsible for repairs to the main line. So a root-choked joint ten feet from the house and a crack right beside the main are both the owner’s to fix, and the city’s crew only steps in when the main itself is the problem.
Building or adding on in Troy
The city charges $4,850 for an in-town sewer tap-on and $100 for the sewer inspection, so a new house or an addition with its own line has those costs before a single foot of pipe goes in. We trench, bed, slope and camera the new lateral, and have it ready for that inspection.
The median Troy house was built in 1992. When one of those lines backs up, the jetter clears it and the camera shows what caused it, so a younger line is not replaced on a guess.
